In August 2018, 15-year-old Swedish girl Greta Thunberg staged a protest outside the Swedish Parliament, standing there every school day for three weeks with a sign that read “Skolstrejk för klimatet” (“School strike for the climate”), to denounce the lack of action on the climate crisis. She shared her protest on Instagram and Twitter, and it quickly went viral. Soon, strikes were organized around the world.
Inspired by Thunberg’s example, Fridays for Future (FFF) became an international movement of students who skip school to demand action to prevent further global warming and climate change.
Beyond Greta’s iconic presence, there is an entire generation of young people who have made this fight their own.
These are some of the young activists who sparked the Italian Fridays for Future movement.
