In Italy, there are more than a million girls and boys without Italian citizenship. Many of them were born in the country or arrived as children. Their lives are deeply tied to Italy, yet they don’t share the same opportunities and rights as their peers, because by law, they are not Italian. They remain suspended in a limbo that prevents them from pursuing and fully realizing their dreams.
The most talented athletes are recognized for their successes in youth competitions, yet they cannot compete for or represent Italy in international events. Sport is only one symbol of the many denied opportunities in every aspect of life for the young people whom the State does not consider “Italian.”
