One day my daughter said: ‘Do you think it’s fair for Christian to grow up like this?’ At that moment I realized she had grown, finally independent, and I began to think of myself and my younger son. I turned to social services. To leave, I needed financial help; my job was not enough to support the children and pay the rent. If I could go back, I would tell my past self that achieving independence, even financial, is the foundation of everything.
